Money to help you pay your bills and commitments
Should the inevitable happen and you’re unable to work due to an accident or sickness, Aprils Accident, Sickness and Hospitalisation Plan provides you with the security and peace of mind that you will still receive a regular monthly income.

This can help keep a roof over your head and food on the table, and ensure your household bills are kept up to date.

Standard benefits

Accident and sickness benefit
Cash benefits available between €300 and €3,000 per month

Once your deferred period has elapsed, if you are off work due to an accident or sickness, your policy will pay you 1/30th of your monthly benefit for each continuous day you are off work. You will receive this benefit for the period of time your chose when taking out the policy, or until you return to work – whichever happens first.

The maximum monthly benefit is 60% of your gross monthly income if you are employed, or if you are self-employed 60% of your taxable monthly income.

As a benefit of this policy April can also cover non-working partners for up to €350 a month. To find out more please read the Policy Document on the benefit entitlement and eligibility.

Hospitalisation benefit

Daily Cash benefits between €30 and €300

If you or an insured member of your family are hospitalised for more than 48 hours, this policy will pay you 10% of your monthly benefit for each subsequent 24 hours that you remain in hospital. This is payable for up to 30 days per insured person per policy year.

In addition to this you will still receive your monthly benefit.

Optional benefits

Choose Your Deferred Period
The deferred period is the period of time you must wait before any monthly benefit becomes payable. The following options are available: 14 days, 30 days, 13 weeks and 26 weeks.

Choose Your Benefit Period
The policy can pay you the monthly benefit for a maximum of 12 or 24 months.

Who can apply?
You must be:

  • Aged 18 years old or over, and under 60.
  • Working (for a minimum of 16 hours per week if you are employed) or self-employed.
  • Not medically certified as unfit for work.
  • A resident in the Republic of Ireland.

How do I apply for this policy?
When applying for this plan, there are:

  • NO lengthy medical questionnaires
  • NO examinations
  • NO waiting for GP reports

With this policy you are guaranteed cover under Aprils Irelands moratorium clause. This means thanks to the quick and simple application process you can take out covered without any delay.

Please note April Ireland will not pay benefits if your accident or sickness or hospitalisation results from any pre-existing medical condition as defined in the Policy Terms unless you have been symptom-free and not received treatment or advice for that condition, for at least two years preceding the incident date (the date at which the accident or sickness occured) and can provide medical records for this two-year period for us to review.

Be Assured that any new medical conditions are not affected and will therefore be covered, subject to the policy terms and conditions and your chosen deferred period.

Here’s what not covered?
In common with other accident and sickness plans, April Irelands plan does not cover you for the following:

  • Normal pregnancy
  • Drug addiction or alcohol abuse
  • Back condition, whiplash or neck injuries
  • Mental illness or stress
  • If you are away from the European Union for more than 90 days
  • Sickness for the first 90 days of the plan.

Important information

Your Cancellation Rights
If for any reason you are not satisfied with your Accident, Sickness and Hospitalisation Plan, you may cancel it within 30 days from its start date for a full refund, provided that you have not made a claim.

Extra protection
In the unlikely instance that Maiden Life Försäkrings AB is unable to meet its obligations under the Accident, Sickness and Hospitalisation Plan, you may be entitled to compensation from the Insurance Compensation Fund. Further information can be obtained from the Central Bank of Ireland.

How the plan is designed to help you and your family

The April Ireland plan is simply designed to help you with your normal healthcare costs, such as dental check-ups, eye tests or physiotherapy sessions – the plan will cover your expenses up to the amount of cover you choose.

Cover starts from as little as 56c a day* and provides 18 valuable cash benefits for you and your family. The application process is quick and very simple!

Here are some of the cash benefits we can offer you.

*Based on individual bronze cover of €16.98 per month

  • Free cover for children (age 3-18)
  • On single cover - your children receive HALF benefits.
  • On joint cover - your children receive FULL benefits.

FAQ

Who can apply

You must be:

  • Between the ages of 16 and 69 inclusive (those over 65 will be entitled to half the standard benefits)
  • Resident in the Republic of Ireland

How do you claim
Simply call us for a claim form, which you’ll need to complete and return. We will also require an original receipt showing that an expense has been incurred, or a letter from the hospital, doctor or specialist showing that a medical treatment/service has been used. Any benefit due will be paid directly into your bank account.

Are there any waiting periods or excesses to pay?
Waiting periods will apply on selected benefits. Please refer to the Policy Document for full information. No excesses are payable on this plan.

How we deal with pre existing conditions?
All pre-existing medical conditions you are aware of, or in our opinion should be aware of, or for which you received treatment, are automatically excluded - unless you have been symptom free and not received treatment or advice for it, for a two year period prior to a claim. This does not apply to optical or dental benefits.

Here's whats not covered
These are some of the key exclusions:

  • Pre-existing medical conditions (not applicable to dental or optical benefits)
  • Alcoholism, alcohol, drug, substance abuse and other addictive conditions
  • HIV/AIDS or any related medical condition
  • Self-inflicted injury or illness
  • Sexually transmitted diseases › Chronic and long-term medical conditions (not applicable to dental or optical benefits)
  • Hazardous pursuits (on the Accident and Sickness Cash benefit only)

Cancellation rights

If for any reason you are not satisfied with your Medical Cash Plan, you may cancel it within 30 days from its start date for a full refund, provided that you have not made a claim.

Extra protection
In the unlikely instance that Axeria Insurance Limited is unable to meet its obligations under the Medical Cash Plan, you will be protected by the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman (FSPO). More details about the FSPO can be found on their website: www.fspo.ie

Here are your benefits explained

What isn’t covered?
In common with other similar protection plans, the Personal Accident Plan does not cover accidents which are caused by the following:

  • War and terrorism
  • Riding a motorcycle, moped or scooter
  • Rock climbing or mountaineering
  • Flying except as a fare-paying passenger
  • Competing in any race other than on foot or whilst swimming
  • Illegal acts, use of explosives, suicide or self-inflicted injury
  • Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs


What does April Ireland mean by a fracture?

“Fracture” means a breach in the continuity of the bone caused by an accident which is identified by an x-ray or in the case of a fracture which is unable to be x-rayed, by confirmation from a doctor.

Here are your payment options
You can choose to cover your partner and children against accidents and fractures for just a small additional premium.

Children must be under the age of 18 or 23 years if in full time education. All premiums shown include any Stamp Duty and/or Government Levy at the current rate, where applicable.

Who can I apply for this plan
You must be over 18 and under 65 years of age. You also need to be a resident in the Republic of Ireland.

How do you make a claim
Simply call 01 623 8471* to request a claim form and start your claim.

Important Information


Cancellation rights

You have the right to cancel your policy for a period of 30 days from the start date or the date you receive your policy if this is later. If you cancel during this period you will receive a full refund of any premium paid. Please note that, if you have made a claim and subsequently wish to cancel your policy, we may seek to recover any monies paid to you in settlement of the claim.
